Our Story
From Pain to Purpose
The Birth of Sias Orchids.
In January, on a chilly morning just after dropping my son off at school, a seemingly ordinary phone call with my cousin would unknowingly become the beginning of a journey that would change my life.
We were both navigating the familiar chaos of parenthood—school drop-offs, work, and dreams of building something greater. That day, our conversation was filled with hope and vision. He excitedly shared updates about his diamond mining business in Sierra Leone, his plans for a tech venture, and we exchanged ideas and strategies like we often did. It was inspiring, and I felt so connected to his drive and passion.
The next day, we talked again for hours. But what I didn’t know was that behind his laughter, he was hiding unbearable pain. Hours later, I received a call that he had been rushed to the hospital. After a series of tests, we were hit with the devastating news: stage 4 cancer. He fought with strength and grace, but within a month, he was gone. I was shattered. I had lost not just a cousin—but a brother, a visionary, a kindred spirit.
Only a week before his diagnosis, we had reminisced about our beloved grandmother, affectionately known as “Graninch”—a name lovingly coined by another cousin. Graninch was a wise woman, full of skill and grace. She, along with my mother, taught me the secrets of skincare from our home in Sierra Leone—how to care for our skin with nature’s finest oils and butters, how to heal, and how to glow from the inside out.
But grief didn’t stop there.
Four months after my cousin passed, I lost my uncle—my second father, my comforter. And just when I thought I couldn’t take more, in 2024, my baby sister Kenita—brilliant, kind, vibrant—vanished from all contact. She had just graduated with a degree in Social Work and dreamed of studying Chinese next. After weeks of searching, I got the call that broke me completely: “Kenita is no more.”
Her life was stolen from us with no justice. That pain shook me to my core. The darkness was overwhelming. I spiraled into a depression so deep I didn’t recognize myself anymore.
But in the stillness of that pain, I prayed. I begged God for peace, for strength, for a sign that there was still purpose in me.
And then it happened.
One day, on the phone with a friend, our conversation turned to skincare—something I had researched and loved years ago. We started talking, researching, dreaming. Suddenly, a fire lit inside me. I pulled out my old notes, and for the first time in months, I felt a spark. From that spark, Sias Orchids was born.
The name had come to me in January—Sias, inspired by the Kono name Sia, meaning “first daughter.” Though my sister and I only shared the same father, and her name was also Sia, I chose to add the “s”—a small letter with a big meaning. It stands for the strength in sisterhood, the shared spirit of the women in my family, and the love that still lingers.
Orchids were the perfect symbol—flowers that represent thoughtfulness, beauty, spiritual awakening, strength, love, and luxury. Every product we create embodies these qualities, blending tradition with care, elegance with intention.
Sias Orchids isn’t just a brand. It’s a tribute.
A tribute to resilience.
To healing.
To family.
To the memory of those we’ve lost and the legacy they’ve left behind.
Through it all, I had my God. I had my husband, my children, my mother, my cousins, my friends. Their love carried me through.
And now, I carry that love into every jar, every bottle, every moment of self-care I hope to offer you.
Welcome to Sias Orchids—where pain birthed purpose, and beauty was born from the ashes.
Isaiah 55:13
“Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”
